Often perceived as an ugly construction material, we love to see concrete being used to create beautifully unique and artistic pieces of art.

Background

Concrete art was an art movement with a strong emphasis on geometrical abstraction. The term was first formulated by Theo van Doesburg and was then used by him in 1930 to define the difference between his vision of art and that of other abstract artists of the time.

Concrete art is abstract art that is entirely free of any basis in observed reality and that has no symbolic meaning.

Today, Concrete Boutique like to simply use concrete art to describe modern pieces of artwork using cement and concrete.

Terraforms

We have seen this terraforming technique before, with the likes of the sculptures by Robert Cannon, but we just love these beautiful and unusual art forms by Jamie North which combine cement, marble waste, limestone, coal ash, organic matter and various Australian plants.

Terraforming or terraformation (literally, "Earth-shaping") is the hypothetical process of deliberately modifying surface topography or ecology of a planet or other body to be similar to the environment of Earth to make it habitable by Earth-like life.

Marlies Hoevers

We love the unique works of Marlies Hoevers, who produces lovely wall hung pieces using concrete and other materials.

This piece, called Dilemma IV - 2017 is particularly interesting combining concrete with cardboard packaging.
